Faith in Communities Scotland has been privileged to support the work of the Poverty Truth Community since it began. I remember once we invited community members to be part of a gathering where we were exploring how different groups and communities could come together to build a network of love, and welcome, and hospitality for people seeking asylum in Scotland.
I've chosen a picture of a piano because it reminds me of a song about welcome which we sang at that gathering and which really connected with some of the community members who were there that day, this is how it goes:
Come away, come away in.
Come away, come away in.
The storm it is rising but we’ll hold back the wind.
Come away, come away in.
The storm is rising but we’ll hold back the wind. It seems to me that this is what the community has done so consistently and so well over many years. When the storms are inevitably raging, PTC welcomes people in, ensures everyone's contribution and experience counts, and everyone hopes and works for a better future. Folk coming together, talking, sharing, supporting each other, believing that change is possible.
Come away in and hold back the wind.
