Working for the Property Truth Commission was the best job I ever had. I absolutely loved all the people and I love getting to know Glasgow which I just recently moved to and cycling between all these communities, it really rooted me in Glasgow and in Glaswegians and who they are and to this day Glasgow is my spiritual home and whenever I visit which is rare these days I literally kissed the concrete outside Central Station because I love it so much, I love the people so much.
It was a massive eye opener for me because I've never growing up in a sort of wealthy part of the Southeast of England in the countryside. I never had any idea that poverty really still existed in the UK in that way and to meet people the same a similar age to me who had such different lives was a massive eye opener, really humbling and taught me so much which is still very, very relevant to me today and really made me a socialist, made me extremely passionate about about everyone being equal and everyone having equal chances in life.
And I'm sure it's hugely influenced to what I'm doing now which is trying to create the first community-owned estate, country estate in England, and give up my families inheritance of this piece of land and turn it over to the community here, and my passion for getting people urban people and marginalised young people and groups involved in the countryside.
So my heart is still very much in it and of course the kinship carers who I who I fought alongside for many years and still support with my activist experience, and they achieved so much we already so much and I love them all very very clearly I love all of you very clearly and I'm miss you very, very much.
I forgot to mention why I choose the picture of the booties, I chose the picture of the booties because of the kinship carers and it reminds me of the demonstrations that we used to do outside City Chambers with hanging lots of children shoes and teddies up to make the point about all these vulnerable kids who are being so well taken care of in their families so yeah big love to the kinship carers.
