Short story: Caroline

These are my stones and my shells, and there are five stones and one shell.

I've been to Iona five times, and each time I've been, I’ve picked up one of these. And every time it's been a hard time for me, like my husband died or I’ve hit crisis point. And really, really bad things in my life have happened.

Each stone represents a bad thing, but each one is also one that I've survived. I survived that stone and lived so I could get another one another.

So even though each one's bad thing, it's a good thing and it's kind of like everybody in the PTC. We're all different shapes, sizes and colours but we are all still just one collection.

My proudest moment was shared with Elaine when we went to the Scottish Parliament for the unveiling of the E-Petitions Exhibition.  My E-Petition to get free phone calls to NHS numbers from mobiles had been successful – this is now the 111 number.

I had succeeded after 5 years, I was so happy to have Elaine by my side.  I had done something to help those with disabilities, in poverty and for children – those who the PTC advocate for.  One small step in the fight for equality.
