Short story: Andrea
Item
My name is Andrea and I'm a former Commissioner in the Poverty Truth Commission and it's an experience that is dear to my heart.
My image is a post-it note and that's because the vital message from the Poverty Truth Commission, which is nothing about me, is for me, without me, has stayed with me and influenced my work. I work as a GP in inclusion health and at the university where I teach students and lead research about improving healthcare for people who are marginalised.
This post-it note is always with me, with those words, as I teach, as I write papers, as I speak to colleagues. I'm thinking, is what I am saying and doing upholding the dignity and respect I think I have for the people this effects? It has also ensured that whenever possible I involve people with lived experience of what we seek to change.
Words matter. Images matter. Representation matters.
